[KubeCon Day 2] We arrived at KubeCon North America

My name is Taninari, and I work in the Service Reliability Group (SRG) of the Media Headquarters.
#SRG(Service Reliability Group) is a group that mainly provides cross-sectional support for the infrastructure of our media services, improving existing services, launching new ones, and contributing to OSS.

This article is a travelogue about how I managed to arrive safely at KubeCon after some trouble the day before.
We will be posting information as it becomes available during KubeCon, so please keep checking back.

Until departure from Haneda Airport

In the previous article, I wrote about how the plane was unable to take off due to equipment problems and how we tried again the next day.

I finally arrived today, so I thought I'd blog about my journey.

Since we had booked a hotel directly connected to Haneda Airport, we started from Haneda Airport's Terminal 3.
For lunch, I decided to have ramen, which is expensive when traveling abroad and which I expected to taste worse than what I would get in Japan, before going through the departure procedures.

I was able to complete the procedure up to the security checkpoint without any problems using the QR code displayed on the app, but when I tried to go through the security checkpoint gate, I got an error (different boarding date).
The attendant explained that I would not be able to pass through unless I was issued a paper ticket.
(Though I was able to check in my luggage and register for FaceExpress without any issues...)
By the way, some of the people who went with me had their flight ticket information from before the rescheduling still on their luggage, which caused an error when they checked in their luggage.

I was issued a paper ticket, registered for FaceExpress again, and was able to pass through security without any problems.
However, I was still worried about whether there would be any problems with the luggage I checked in here without using a paper ticket.
I thought it would be fine since the ticket I was using was for yesterday's flight and the destination was the same, but I was still worried so I asked my colleague to check if my luggage was in the same place as his AirTag.
I confirmed that my luggage was in the same place, so I decided that it would be okay.

It was the same aircraft and the same time as yesterday, so I felt like I was watching yesterday and was very worried about whether we would actually be able to fly, but we were able to take off without any problems.

Arriving at Seattle-Tacoma Airport in transit

I arrived at Seattle-Tacoma Airport, which I was using for transit, roughly on time, and went to the baggage claim area to wait for my luggage.
I was worried, so I checked the location with AirTag and it showed that it was at Haneda Airport Terminal 3 10 hours ago.
I wondered if it hadn't been updated, so I asked about three other colleagues to check the location, and it showed that it was at the Seattle airport...
In a panic, I tried various things, including restarting the app, but the location did not update, so I waited anxiously for my package to arrive.

After about 20 minutes of checking the location app, the display changed to show that we had arrived in Seattle about 35 minutes ago, and I was able to collect my luggage without any problems.
(I'm not sure why my AirTag was slow to update.)

After collecting your luggage, proceed to immigration.
I went through a different immigration counter, but I could hear an inspector speaking very fluent Japanese from the immigration counter next door.

The next check-in process went smoothly.
Since we were traveling with a group of people, we had plenty of time, about four hours for the transit, as there was a possibility that we would not be able to board the next flight if we had any problems with baggage collection or immigration.
(I've heard of cases where people have limited their transit time to two hours and ended up rushing through the airport, so it's best to give yourself some leeway if you'll be going through immigration or there's a chance of an accident.)

Arrived safely in Salt Lake City!

We boarded a plane bound for our final destination, Salt Lake City, and arrived safely there.
Take an Uber to the hotel and check in.

For dinner, we went to the first KFC store (there are various theories about this).
I haven't been to KFC much in Japan, but it was very tasty and had a nice spice to it.
Below are some photos taken on site.

The real thing starts tomorrow!

Starting tomorrow, I hope to be able to post blog posts about the sessions I attended at the KubeCon conference.
(There will be a party after the session, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to blog about it on the day, but I'll do my best.)
