The issue of not being able to see the smallest granularity (seconds) in CloudWatch Database Insights metrics.

This is Yuta Kikai (@fat47) from the Service Reliability Group (SRG) of the Media Division.

This article is aboutThe time in seconds for metrics that were visible in RDS Performance Insights are not visible in CloudWatch Database Insights. This article summarizes the phenomenon described above.
I hope this is of some help.

What is CloudWatch Database Insights?

CloudWatch's database integrated monitoring feature is the migration destination for RDS Performance Insights and offers almost the same functionality as Performance Insights.

At the time I published the following blog post last June,November 30, 2025Performance Insights was scheduled to be discontinued and completely migrated to Database Insights, but this was postponed for some time.

When you open the Performance Insights screen, the following announcement is displayed: June 30, 2026It appears that the complete transition has been postponed until further notice.

The data itself is collected on a second-by-second basis.

The Performance Insights database load documentation clearly states that DB load is collected every second, as follows:
DBLoad

I couldn't find any mention in the Database Insights documentation that it collects data every second, but when I contacted support, they said...Database Insights also retrieves database load values every second. That was the response I received.

In conclusion

There are about four months left until Performance Insights is discontinued, so it would be great if we could also check the time in seconds in Database Insights before then!
