[KubeCon Day 2] I have arrived at KubeCon North America.

This is Taniguchi from the Service Reliability Group (SRG) of the Media Division.
#SRGThe Service Reliability Group primarily provides comprehensive support for the infrastructure surrounding our media services, focusing on improving existing services, launching new ones, and contributing to open-source software (OSS).

This article is a travelogue about how I managed to arrive at KubeCon safely after some trouble the day before.
I plan to post articles with updates throughout KubeCon, so please check them out.

Until departure from Haneda Airport

In the previous article, I wrote about how the plane was grounded due to equipment problems and how we tried again the next day.

I finally arrived today, so I'm going to write a blog post about the journey.

Since I had booked a hotel directly connected to Haneda Airport, my journey started from Haneda Airport Terminal 3.
For lunch, I decided to eat ramen, which I anticipated would be more expensive overseas and taste inferior to what I'd get in Japan, before going through the departure procedures.

I was able to complete the security checkpoint process without any problems using the QR code displayed on the app, but when I tried to go through the security gate, I got an error message (indicating a different boarding date).
I was told by an attendant that I wouldn't be able to pass through without a paper ticket.
(I was able to check in my luggage and register for FaceExpress without any problems, but...)
Incidentally, among my travel companions, some encountered errors when checking in their luggage because their previous flight information was still on the system.

I was issued a paper ticket, registered with FaceExpress again, and was able to pass through security without any problems.
However, I was left wondering if there would be any problems with luggage checked in without using a paper ticket.
I figured it would be fine since the ticket I was using was for yesterday's flight and the destination was the same, but I was still worried, so I asked my colleague to check if my luggage was in the same place as their AirTag.
Since I was able to confirm that the luggage was in the same place, I decided to assume that it would be alright.

It was the same aircraft and the same time as yesterday, so it felt like I was watching yesterday's events unfold, and I was really worried about whether we would actually be able to fly. But we were able to take off without any problems.

Arrived at Seattle-Tacoma Airport via transit.

I arrived at Seattle-Tacoma Airport, where I was transiting, almost on time, and went to the baggage claim area to wait for my luggage.
I was worried, so I checked the location using AirTag, and it showed that it was at Haneda Airport Terminal 3 10 hours ago.
I wondered if it wasn't being updated, so I asked about three other colleagues to check the location, and it showed that it was at Seattle Airport...
I frantically tried various things, including restarting the app, but the location wouldn't update, so I waited anxiously for the package to arrive.

After about 20 minutes of constantly checking my location app, it changed to show that I had arrived in Seattle about 35 minutes earlier, and I was able to successfully retrieve my luggage.
(I'm not entirely sure why my AirTag update was delayed.)

After collecting your luggage, proceed to immigration.
I went through a different immigration checkpoint, but I could hear the voice of an inspector speaking very fluent Japanese from the next checkpoint.

The next boarding procedure was completed without any problems.
Since we were traveling in a group, there was a possibility that we might miss our next flight if we encountered any problems with baggage claim or immigration, so we allowed a generous four hours for transit.
(I've heard stories of people cutting it close by, like having a 2-hour layover and having to run through the airport, so it's probably best to allow extra time if you're going through immigration or if there's a risk of an accident.)

We arrived safely in Salt Lake City!

I boarded a flight to my final destination, Salt Lake City, and arrived safely.
I'll use Uber to get to the hotel and check in.

For dinner, we went to what is considered the first KFC restaurant (though there are differing opinions).
I haven't been to KFC very often in Japan, but it was really delicious with just the right amount of spice.
The following are photos taken on location.

The real show starts tomorrow!

Starting tomorrow, I hope to post blog entries about the sessions I attended at the KubeCon conference.
(There was a party after the session, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to write a blog post on the same day, but I'll do my best.)
